When choosing among different types of glass, we must always take the following requirements into consideration:
-Safety
-Winter thermal insulation
-Summer thermal insulation
-Soundproofing
UNI 7697 standards, which indicatea “safe” glass in case of breakage for each specific use in the construction industry, regulate safety.
The “Ug” value expresses winter thermal insulation- the lowest the value, the higher the glass insulation level. Instead, the “FS” solar value –the percentage of heat that glass lets through with respect to solar radiation- expresses summer thermal insulation.
Lastly, the Italian Ministerial Decree D.P.C.M of 5th December 1997 requires soundproofing, which is absolutely essential in residential and commercial applications placed in areaswith high noise pollution levels like city centres, airports, stations and highly congested roads.
